Seeking an Executive Director of the Monk Botanical Gardens

Executive Director
Monk Botanical Gardens in Wausau, WI is seeking a full time executive director with excellent nonprofit management skills, experience managing people, assets and finances and fund development. The successful candidate will be charged with providing overall leadership within the organization, managing paid staff and volunteers and designing, implementing and managing a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the organization. The executive director will also forge new relationships to build Monk Botanical Gardens’ visibility, impact and financial resources within the communities it serves.
The executive director will serve under the direction of and report to the Board of Directors. Prior experience with public gardens would be valuable, although not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for overall management of the Gardens, grounds and operations.
2. Create a culture that promotes repeat use of the Gardens by visitors.
3. Demonstrate leadership in fund development, including establishment of effective membership programs, fee structures and fund raising events and identifying, soliciting and cultivating funding sources.
4. Administer the Gardens’ budget.
5. Provide overall supervision for staff and volunteers.
6. Work with Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, vendors and contractors related to grounds and facility development, programming and maintenance.
7. Establish and maintain good working relationships with governmental entities, educational entities, and regional botanical, horticulture and environmental organizations.
8. Develop, implement and monitor the Gardens’ strategic plan.
9. Clearly and enthusiastically articulate the Gardens’ mission to members, donors, media, civic groups, government and the public.

· Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
· Fund development, organizational and administrative skills.
· At least 5 years in a management position, preferably in a public garden or arboretum setting.
· Computer, verbal and written communication skills.
· Understanding of accounting and financial management.
· Board, donor and employee relations skills.
