Welcome to Pesto Fest in the Garden 2017!
Thursday, August 31
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

You are invited to a beautiful summer evening at Monk Botanical Gardens, as we team up with the Thyme Keepers Herb Club and local chefs for this inaugural fundraiser featuring pesto making, pesto tasting, pizza, wine and more.

Bring your own pesto to be sampled and judged by a panel of local chefs. Each registrant is asked to bring an 1/8 cup of their prize pesto. Registrants enter under one of three categories:  Best Basil Pesto, Best Other Herb or Vegetable Pesto or Best Other Ingredient Pesto. A winner will be named in each category and cooking-related prizes will be awarded. Our pesto panel includes Chef Clint Schultz from Urban Bistro, Chef (and Doctor) John Johnkowski, Chef (and NTC Culinary Arts instructor) Travis Teska, and Chef (and Channel 9 Meteorologist) Justin Loew.

Learn (and sample) during pesto making demonstrations by members of the Thyme Keepers Herb Club. They will prepare three different non-traditional ingredient pesto recipes from plants they have tended in our Kitchen Garden. Recipes and tips will be shared and each participant will take home a sample of one pesto.

Thyme Keepers Herb Club will demonstrate how to make the following pestos (and share the recipes):

-carrot and lime yogurt pesto
-beet top, parsley and roasted pine nut pesto -tarragon and parsley pesto

Enjoy pesto pizza, prepared by local chef Brian Fruend, from our Kitchen Garden wood-fired pizza oven, along with wine, courtesy of County Market and other beverages.

Your entrance fee of $20 will allow you to have your pesto entered (which is optional), and provide you with beverages, pesto pizza samples, recipes, and demonstrations, while also helping support and grow the Gardens.

Join us for this tasty and uniquely summertime event!
